Looks For Less: The Summer Edition
In my opinion, there’s nothing more exciting and refreshing than clearing out your closet at the end of the winter and making room for summer pieces… Summer style is simply the best, and if you’re anything like me, you love finding pieces that are cute, comfortable, and easy to style. During this time of year, you can get away with dressing up or down. You can walk out the door in a pair of denim shorts, a tee shirt, and some sneakers, or a beautiful dress, some fun earrings and a cute pair of slides… anything goes in the summertime.
One tiny downfall, however, is that clothing is expensive. Lucky for you, I’ve found the best dupes for all of the looks that are hot this summer.
Here are some of my favorite summer looks… but for less.
Midi Dresses & Midi Skirts
Midi dresses and skirts are some of the biggest trends at the moment. I love them because I think they flatter all different shapes and sizes and instantly elevate your look. While I do love a cute mini dress, there is something so effortlessly chic about the more modest midi dress or skirt. Even better, with the right accessories, a piece like this can transition seamlessly from day to night. For example, pair your skirt with a white or graphic tee shirt, some white sneakers, and a denim or leather jacket during the day. At night, simply swap the tee for a cami or fitted tank, and the sneakers for some heels or mules. Easy.
Nasty Gal, 12th Tribe, and Verge Girl have some great midi dresses and skirts that are great quality and on trend.
Layered Jewelry
Layering chunky jewelry can honestly transform an outfit. This summer, it’s all about stacking on rings, bracelets, and necklaces of all different lengths, shapes, and sizes. And don’t worry about following traditional “rules”; mixing different metals and textures may have been a big no in the past, but now it’s all the rage.
Jewelry can be expensive, and especially when it comes to pieces that aren’t as timeless, I have a hard time spending a lot of money on them. Luckily, there are tons of brands that have catered towards people who aren’t looking to drop hundreds of dollars on one piece. I’ve found some great pieces from Adina’s Jewels, Mejuri and even Amazon.
Pro tip: look for pieces that are plated in gold or sterling silver. These pieces tend to be great quality, but for a fraction of the price. These pieces aren’t solid gold/silver, but they’re dipped in it, so they won’t leave any marks on your skin, and look just as high quality as more expensive jewelry.
Square Toed Shoes
Alright. I’m going to get specific for a second. Square toed shoes are it this summer. These shoes scream summertime and are a more modern take on a retro look. This fun shoe style takes me right back to the ’90s, and I’m all about it. Wear a pair of square-toed strappy heels with a midi skirt for a look that is perfect for a summer cocktail party of evening out.
Finding shoes that are stylish, moderately priced and inexpensive can be difficult. & Other Stories and Zara have some great shoes that are reasonably priced. What I love about these two brands specifically, is that they’re not creating dupes. If I’m buying something, no matter the price, I want something stylish and unique to the brand.
Woven and Wooden Bags
A fun, beachy accessory that is both stylish and functional. Woven and Wooden bags have quickly become one of my favorite trends. These bags scream summer and are the perfect final touch to any outfit. Wear one of these bags with you favorite sundress and some sunnies and you have a cute, photo-ready outfit.
ASOS, Zara and Nordstrom Rack have some great pieces for just a fraction of what you’d pay at any department store.
There you have it, some of the top summer trends for a little bit less. This “looks for less” series is new, but I’ve had a lot of fun creating it, so maybe I’ll do another one soon! Hope this helps some of you readers.
More to come!
