Start Your Day Fresh

July 25, 2017 -

I am a strong believer in the fact that when it comes to beauty, less is more.  It’s all about highlighting the features you do have, the ones that make you unique, rather than trying to cover up flaws or create something entirely different.  Makeup should not be used as a mask, but as a tool to help you enhance the features that you love the most.

Over the past year or so, I’ve become really interested in skincare.  Throughout high school, like many teenagers, I struggled with my skin and was constantly dealing with spots and dryness. Even though I was able to cover up a lot of it with makeup, I felt very insecure because I knew what was underneath all of the layers of concealer.  After experimenting with a few different skin care regimes, I finally discovered a routine that works for me.  I learned that it’s not necessarily about finding the best spot treatment, or medicated cream, but rather adjusting your lifestyle as a whole and learning to take better care of yourself.  Yes, I still do get a spot or two every now and then, but for the most part, I am confident with the way my skin looks with no makeup at all, which is something I could not have said about myself a year ago.

I like to keep my skincare routine pretty simple for the most part.  I don’t use a ton of product, because I really want to be able to maintain a routine over a long period of time, and not feel like I’m piling product after product on top of my face.

In the morning, I love using my Vitamin Nectar Moisture Glow Face Cream by Fresh.  This day creme is not heavy, but still extremely moisturizing, and leaves the face with a really healthy looking glow.  To be honest, I can walk out the door like this and be just fine, but if I’m feeling like applying some makeup, I’ll usually top it off with my Rose Floral Toner.  This is a great way to add a little bit of moisture and glow back into your face after applying makeup, and I find that everything looks so much more natural after just a few spritzes of this stuff.

Nighttime is when I spend a little bit more time working on my skin.  I’ve loved adopting my skincare regime into my nighttime routine, because it really helps me wind down and relax.   After carefully removing all of my makeup, I’ll go in with my Sugar Face Polish and gently exfoliate my skin.  I only exfoliate about once or twice a week, and it’s important not to over exfoliate, because you could risk irritating your skin.  After this, I’ll sometimes go for a face mask (I switch up my masks quite frequently depending on what I feel my skin needs at the moment), and then top it all off with my Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask.  I honestly cannot stress how much I love this stuff.  For someone who has dealt with dry skin for the majority of my life, I can truly say that this is the solution.  I love the way this cream feels at night, and love how hydrated my skin feels the next morning even more.

I’ve really enjoyed trying out these new products, and seeing the difference that they have made on my skin so far.  I feel so much more confident in myself knowing that I no longer rely on makeup to cover anything up, and I have even learned to accept the spots that do show up as just part of life.
