Unfiltered By Lily Collins | Book Review

I recently finished reading the book Unfiltered, by Lily Collins and could not wait to write about it.  I usually wouldn’t go for an autobiography, because in the past, I’ve found them hard to get through, however, after hearing about this book through the grape vine, I decided to give it a go. 

Honestly, I couldn’t put the book down.  Collins managed to tell her story with humor and wit, capturing significant moments in her life in an relevant way.  Through sharing a series of personal experiences, she perfectly captures what is is like to be a teenager/young adult in this day and age, and more specifically, the pressure that we as a society tend to place on ourselves to fill a certain mold.  From confronting relationships with food, family and friends, I found this book to be incredibly honest and relatable, and was able to draw lots of connections to my own life.

Additionally, Collins has an extremely hopeful outlook on life, and demonstrates that with  the right mind set, and a little bit of stamina, it is possible to overcome any obstacle that life presents.  Rather than dwelling on issues that may have brought her down in the past, she views these points in her life as pivotal moments that shaped her into the person she is today, showing the reader that even the troubling times in life are there for a reason, and can often teach us the most about ourselves and what we need going forward.

Personally, this book fit perfectly into my own life, and what I have gone through in the past year.  It reminded me to make peace with my past experiences, and move forward with a positive mindset.

Although different from what I would normally go for, I have to say, I ended up loving this book, and I would highly recommend reading it if you have the chance.
