The Whitney
The Whitney is one of my favorite museums by far. Home to some of the most interesting pieces of american art (as well as some pretty cool views of the city), I would highly reccomend this place to anybody who hasn’t been. Last Friday, it was super chilly out, so I decided to head over to The Whitney and see what was new.
I spent most of my time checking out Laura Owens’ exhibition, which was really cool. This vibrant collection incoorporated lots of bright colors, materials and text into both abstract and more tangible pieces, inviting the viewer to think in creatively. One of my favorite pieces of the day was located on the 5th floor. At first glance it looks like a bunch of individual canvases with random words randomly placed in a room, however, if you look at the canvases from a specific angle, the words line up and tell a short story. I hadn’t ever seen a piece like this before, and I loved that it required a certain amount of attention and interaction from the viewer in order to be seen in the way that it was intended.
Here are a few pics of some of my favorite moments from the day!
