Up, Up & Away!

Up, Up & Away!

September 2, 2016 -

Life is filled with all sorts of changes and new experiences.  From meeting new people, to traveling to foreign places, we are constantly expanding ourselves as individuals and learning more and more about the world around us.  Rarely, however, do we have the opportunity to reflect on the past, and really think about the moments in time that shaped us as people.

Currently, I’m going through some major changes in my life.  I recently graduated high school, and am getting ready to pack up and embark on a completely new journey.  I grew up in a small mountain town, spending lots of free time hiking trails, floating rivers, and skiing slopes.  Next year however, I will be attending school in Los Angeles, California, swapping my small town for a city, and ditching the mountains for sandy beaches.  Excited? Yes.  But I also can’t help but feel a bit of nostalgia as I reminisce on the years I’ve lived in this beautiful town.  Wherever I go in life, the mountains will always feel like home to me.  Something about the clear skies, cool mornings, and lazy afternoons is so comforting to me, and to be quite honest, it is hard to think about leaving all of it behind, no matter how exciting this next chapter is.  As I get ready to take this next step in life, I find is so important to take a few moments to look back on the past.  Evaluate the moments in my life that have shaped me the most as a person, and think back on what I have learned from those experiences.  It is so important to take a step back every once in a while, and think about where you are in your life, who you have become, and how you got that way.

So, to any of my readers that are going through changes in life, whether they be major or minor, take some time to reflect on the past, and look back on the experiences that brought you to the present.  Think of who you are in the moment, and challenge yourself to be even better.  Use your past experiences as tools to help you move forward in life, and set both long and short term goals.  Dare to dream big, and fly high, but remember your roots – the people and experiences that shaped you as a person, and made you who you are today.  Be progressive, and every so often, look back on those moments, and cherish the memories.

Here’s to the future, and to embracing change!
