A Weekend Getaway

A Weekend Getaway

Last weekend, I headed up to San Fransisco for a little getaway.  While there, I was able to catch up on sleep, eat great food, and spend time with family.  It was the perfect escape, and I returned to school feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

San Fransisco is such a unique city, and holds a very special place in my own heart.  The rolling hills and victorian townhouses add so much charm, and I am always reminded of the countless times I visited the city as a child.  Being much older, however, I am able to appreciate different aspects of the city, and see it in a completely new light.  Here were a few highlights from the weekend…

  1. The Mission District – Located on the east side of the city, The Mission District is an area that really speaks for itself.  It is rich with culture, packed with cute restaurants, and extremely vibrant.  All of the walls are painted in bright colors and intricate designs, and there seems to always be something interesting going on, from street fairs and music, to food tasting.  I loved walking around here, and experiencing a side of the city that I had never seen before.
  2. Home Cooked Meals – Okay, so I just HAD to talk about this one.  Being in college, I find it really difficult to eat food that is both nutritious and satisfying, and going out dinner, while delicious, tends to be pretty rich, not to mention expensive.  Over the weekend, I had a few home cooked meals, and it was just what I needed.  There is something so comforting about going shopping for dinner, coming home, and cooking it yourself. It was so nice to come home after a big day adventures, and sit down to a home cooked meal.
  3. AT&T Park – On Sunday morning, before I had to head back to the airport to catch my flight, we walked a few blocks down from the apartment to AT&T park.  There was a baseball game going on, and tons of people had anchored their boats to relax by the park for the morning.  It was such a beautiful day, and I was so sad to be leaving.  There is something so relaxing about being by the water, and I loved hearing the occasional distant roar of the crowd from the baseball game.  It was a really lovely morning, and the perfect way to end my stay in the city.

All and all, I loved my little weekend getaway to San Fransisco.  I highly recommend visiting if you’ve never been.  It is such a charming, and unique city, and is packed with culture and history.  I’m already planning my next visit, and cannot wait to return!
