Wind Down
October 9, 2016 -
While college is one of the most fun times in a persons life, it can also be super busy and stressful, and sometimes, all we need is just a few minutes to ourselves. Personally, I love being around all of my friends, but I also need time to myself to unwind, and recharge. Whenever I have a few minutes to myself, here is what I like to do.
I try to set aside 20-45 minutes each day to completely relax. I tend to get super exhausted and overwhelmed really easily, so taking this time to wind down really helps me. The first thing I like to do when I get back to my dorm room is change into some comfy clothes, and make a hot cup of tea. By just doing these two simple things, I instantly feel so much more relaxed. Next, I like to either get out a book and read, or write a little bit in my journal. Over the past few months, I’ve gotten really into journaling, and have found it to be a great way for me to sort our my thoughts, and declutter my mind. While I love reading and writing, sometimes I’m just so exhausted, that I don’t want to do anything at all. On these days, I like put my headphones in, and listen to a relaxing playlist, or a guided meditation. I particularly love the guided meditations. They are a great way to get a quick power nap in, and I always feel rejuvenated and fresh when I wake up. I’ve tried quite a few different meditations, but recently have been using an app called sleep well. It’s a 28 minute guided meditation, and can be used at night to help you fall asleep, as well as during the day with a setting that wakes you up at the end of the session. I really love this app, but there are tons of different apps, websites, and youtube videos out there – it’s all about finding which one works best for you.
I find it really important to take a few minutes each day to relax. We tend to get so caught up in a fast paced lifestyle, and sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. By setting just a few minutes aside each day to wind down, you really will notice the world of a difference, and will be able to function better on a day to day basis.
