Hawaii Travel Diary

Hawaii Travel Diary

To kick off July this year, I escaped to the Big Island for the perfect mid-summer getaway. I had the best time indulging in delicious seafood, spending way too much time in the sun, and kicking it back with my family. I've been dying to get this post up, but only just now have had the chance to actually put it together. So... let's just get right to it. I'll be sharing all of the musts from the week -- from where to stay, shop and eat, as well as a few favs that got me through the week.

Enjoy!

The Outfits //

When it comes to clothing (especially while on vacation), comfort is key. I basically lived in this oversized blouse from Rails all week. It's the perfect beach coverup, because it's stylish, but also super light and breathable, and doesn't take up a lot of space in a beach bag. I think that it's super important to invest in a good pair of sunglasses if you are planning on being in the sun all day. My personal favs are the Rayban Round Metal Classics, but when it comes to eyewear, the options are pretty endless these days. I also made sure to throw a few cute dresses into my suitcase for the nights that we went out to dinner, and packed a few cute pairs of shoes to dress up the outfit.

The Eats //

Among other things Hawaii is known for it's fresh seafood, so while I was there, I made an effort to eat as much of it as possible. We ate lot's of poké, fish tacos, and sushi of course. Monstera Noodles & Sushi had some delicious fresh rolls, and the fish tacos at Hau Tree, which are served with a sweet guava aioli are to die for. We also did quite a bit of cooking, as we stayed in a house, and had lots of fun finding local fish markets and picking from the fresh catch of the day.

The Essentials //

When you're spending an entire day outside and in the sun, it's super important to make sure that you're taking care of yourself. While it may seem tempting to skin the spf from day one in hopes of achieving the perfect golden glow, it's so importnat to protect your skin. In the past, I'm not going to lie, I've been really bad about using sunscreen simply because I hate the way that it feels on my skin. But in the more recent years, I've learned more about some of the serious effects that can come from failing to protect your skin, so I've made an effort to find products that work for me. When it comes to sun protection, I've been using three products religiously; the invisible shield by Glossier, Sunbums suncreen lotion, and the COOLA's Liplux. All three of these products are super light on the skin, and don't leave that gross residue that so many sunscreen lotions leave. Additionally, after a long day of being in the sun, it's super important to rehydrate your skin and take care of any burns that you may have gotten. For my face, I use the same products almost every single day. I rinse and exfoliate with the Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser as well as Dermalogica's Gentle Cream Exfoliant, and follow up with Glossier's Rich Priming Moisturizer. For my body, despite using spf, I did burn a little bit, so I used the Sunbum Cool Down After Sun Lotion. By using all of these products every single day, my skin stayed healthy and clear.
