Let's Talk Mood Boosters
August 5, 2020
Real talk. Quarantine has not been easy on me.
As someone who thrives with routine, the mass pandemonium that came in 2020 really threw me off… I’m sure many of you readers can relate.
While I always try to keep it relatively lighthearted and positive on this space, truth be told, I really struggled for a period of time. Being thrown into such uncertainty made me feel completely out of control and without any real direction or purpose. I found, however, that while I have very little control over what’s happening in the world, I do have the ability to change my own perspective. I have the power to fill my days with things that bring me joy, and to surround myself with people that uplift me.
That being said, here are a few mood boosters that have really helped me throughout these uncertain times…
Natural Light
I used to not think about this at all, but after hearing Lauren Evarts talk light, movement and hydration on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast, I was intrigued. Turns out, exposure to natural light during the day is known to improve energy, mood, and sleep quality. Every morning, I open my shades as soon as I wake up. This flood of natural light instantly uplifts me and puts me in an overall positive mindset.
Positive Affirmations
I’ve struggled with confidence and self-worth for as long as I can remember, but it got really out of control and soon as quarantine started. I began to notice how negatively I would talk to and about myself on a daily basis, and knew that this needed to change. About a month ago, I began meditating and practicing positive affirmations — specifically focusing on replacing any negative phrases that I regularly say to myself with positive ones. Here are just a few of the affirmations that I try repeat to myself everyday.
“I am beautiful.”
“I am a radiant light source who deserves the love I give.”
“I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to.”
They may seem cheesy, but these small reminders make the world of a difference. Pick a positive affirmation that resonates with you, and begin saying it to yourself throughout the day. I promise it will change the way you feel about yourself.
Fresh flowers
A small addition but an instant mood booster. Fresh flowers are absolutely stunning, add a pop of color to your living space, and they smell amazing… what’s not to love?
Podcasts
I’m a big fan of podcasts, but over the past few months I’ve gained a new appreciation for them. Podcasts are a great way to feel connected and in tune with others, and depending on what you listen to, they can be the perfect distraction from the chaos that is our world right now.

Dosist sleep PEn
This last one definitely isn’t for everyone, but in all honesty, the Sleep Pen from Dosist has really helped me. I struggle with anxiety and insomnia, which have both been exaserbated over the past few months. This pen doesn’t contain enough THC to get me high, but it does help calm me down and get a full night of rest.
Note: I live in California so this is completely legal and allowed here, but if you are looking into purchasing definitely check out your State’s rules and regulations.
What do you do to boost your mood?
Let me know.
xx,
seb.
