Spring In New York City
April 30, 2017 -
Spring in New York really is something else. The city seems to come alive at this time of year. From vibrant tulips on Park Avenue, to beautiful cherry blossoms in the Central Park, it really is something to see.
Last week, I headed over to New York City for a few days, and while I was there, I came down with a major case of spring fever. I was completely taken away by the beauty of the city at this time of year and was energized by the people and the fast paced lifestyle that New York is so famous for.
While in the city, I managed to stop by a few of my favorite spots. If you happen to be here at this time of year (or any time for that matter), I highly recommend making your way over to some of these places.
~ Brunch at Maison Kayser ~
Maison Kayser is definitely a favorite of mine. You can find these cafés scattered all around the city, but I recommend the one on 74th and 3rd. This authentic Boulangerie is the perfect place to stop by if you’re looking for a croissant and a cup of coffee to go, or if you want to sit down for a lovely brunch. This bakery is fairly new compared to others in the city, as it only opened in 2012, but it already has a reputation of its own. Along with being celebrated by critics for the “best baguette” in NYC, this place has a unique yet inviting french charm that is sure to attract any food or coffee lover.
~ Bathesda Fountain ~
The Bathesda Fountain is one of my favorite spots in the entire park, especially during the spring. At this time of year, the entire terrace is surrounded by bright pink cherry blossoms, and if you’re lucky enough to get there when it’s not super busy, it is the perfect place to escape the commotion of the city. This is also a place where lots of artists like to perform, and I can always count on great music when I’m here.
~ The Whitney Museum ~
The Whitney is a really cool museum located in the Meat Packing District, that is sure to impress any viewer. Unlike many museums that you may visit, Whitney is focused on featuring living artists, and has an amazing array of 20th century and contemporary American art. Currently, The Whitney is featuring art from the 1900’s – present day, as well as hosting a compelling exhibit that focuses on times of rife in American history; from racial tension and political affairs, to economic challenges. This museum is unike anything that I’ve ever seen, and it also happen to be in a really cool area.
~ The Highline ~
Originally a train track running from 34th street to St John’s Park Terminal, the High Line has been transformed into an 1.5 mile long elevated walk way for pedestrians to explore. This is a great place to visit if you’re in New York for the first time, because not only are you walking on history, but you also get to see the city in a completely unique way.
~ Salad at Sweet Green ~
This salad bar is not just unique to New York, but I wanted to write about it because it can actually be pretty difficult to find a place to eat out when you’re trying to maintain a healthy diet. At Sweet Green, you have the option of choosing from a menu, or building your own salad; think chipotle, but for salads and with better quality ingredients. I love this place because I can see each and every ingredient that is going into my salad, and I always feel confident that I am eating a nutricious meal when I am here.
Although it was a super quick trip, I got so much done while I was in New York, and was able to see so much. Can’t visit again soon.
