New Years Resolutions
January 8, 2017 -
2016 was a crazy year. Looking back to where I was in my life at this time next year, and seeing just how much has changed in such a short amount of time still blows my mind. Last year at this time, I was just starting my last trimester of school, running on no sleep and zero motivation, experiencing the full effects of senioritis, frantically shuffling through all of my contacts and resources in order to come up with a senior project, and college was an enigma. My goal last year? To make it to this year.
And here I am, one year later, working on new projects, and meeting new people. And as for college? Still an enigma.
This past year was a big year for me, and it’s crazy to think of how much has changed since this time last year. Through the highs and lows, I continued to grow as a person. I met tons of new people, and expereinced so many new things. As I start to think about 2017, and what’s in store, I feel overwhelned and nervous, but more so than anything, excited. While there is so much that out of my hands, I’ve come up with a few resolutions that I thought I would share.
~Write More~
During the summer, I decided to invest in my first jounral, and start writing. I instantly fell in love with journaling, and it became such a wonderful outlet to me. Over the past few months, however, things got buiser, and I found myself writing less and less. This year, I want to start journaling again, even if it’s just a few lines each day. I’m a thinker – I always have been, so it’s really nice to get all of my thoughts down on a piece of paper and declutter my mind.
~Be Present~
This one may sound a bit cliché, but it’s actually pretty important to me. As I just mentioned, I’m a thinker, and sometimes, I think a bit too much. I often times catch myself reminscing over the past, or dreaming about the future. In doing so, I tend to forget to appreciate the moment that I’m in. This year, I want to continue my effort to be as present as possible in the moment, and appreciate what is going on now.
~Continue to be Health Conscious~
Over the past month or so, I’ve really been focusing on my health. From being more active, to adjusting my diet, health has definitely become a priority to me. In 2017, I really want to continue this health kick, and do my best to have a healthy lifestyle.
~Cook More~
Despite the fact that I’m not very good at it, I’ve always loved cooking. It’s fun, and creative, and the outcome can be delicious… and sometimes catastrophic! Anyways, this year, I want to start cooking more, with a focus on healthy, plant based recipes.
~Do Something Active Every Day~
I tend to feel my best when I’m active, so this year, I really want to focus on doing something active every single day. Whether that be going to a yoga class, the gym, skiing, or even just a short hike, it’s a great way to stay in shape, maintain energy, and feel healthy.
~Start Reading Again~
This is probably going to be the hardest one for me, but if I can stick to it, I will feel so rewarded. This year, I really want to get into reading again. I used to love to read, and could sit down for hours with a good book. But, with the absolute chaos of my last few years of highschool, and first semester of college, it has become less and less of a priotrity. I almost never read for pleasure anymore, so this year, since I’ll have a little bit more free time, I want to start reading again. My goal is to read one book every month, but we’ll have to see how that goes!
Each new year, I like to start fresh and put a new foot forward, and I encourage you all to do the same. Dare to be the best you yet, and strive for goals that you thought were impossible last year. I look forward to seeing what 2017 has in store.
Cheers!
