My Happy Place
October 2, 2017 -
I think everyone can relate in some way or another to the fact that we all have a happy place. Somewhere that we can go anytime, no matter how we’re feeling, and instantly be calm. Personally, I am most at peace when I am outside. I love the feeling of the sun hitting my skin, breathing in fresh air and listening to the sound of silence fill the space. For me, these moments in which I can completely unplug are what keep me going.
There’s a lot that I love about living in New York, but one thing that’s been hard has been finding a quiet outdoor space. In a city that’s constantly moving, it can be really difficult to find the time to slow down and unplug, but it’s not impossible. I’m all about having a healthy mind, body and soul, so upon moving to the city, I made it a goal to find my happy place.
Washington, Union and Madison Square park are all within walking distance from where I live, and are all great places to hang out, but my all time favorite place to go is a specific location within central park. Surrounded by big beautiful trees, and looking out on glassy water, the bethesda fountain is one of my favorite spots in the entire city. I’ve always loved this place, and it’s far enough away from where I live, that I really do feel like I’m unplugging from my world when I go there. Although it can be pretty crowded at times, and isn’t really quiet per say, I still find it to be extremely relaxing. One of the reasons that I love this place so much, is because of the music. I’ve stumbled upon some of the most incredible performers here, and the way in which the space amplifies the sound creates a really surreal experience all together. This is one of the few places in the world where I feel completely calm and at peace.
When I have a moment to unplug, whether I’m surrounded by tall trees and tremendous mountains back at home, or sitting amongst hundreds of other people, in a tiny location within a big city, time seems to slow down. These moments that I have to myself are what keep me going, keep my mind clear.
