For as long as I can remember, I’ve lacked confidence. In this day and age, it is so easy to compare yourself to others, and I am the first to say that I have fallen victim to this trend many many times in my life.
I think it’s pretty safe to say that it’s been a rough week for most of us out there. Regardless of our own personal opinions, the overwhelmingly low energy, and hateful breakouts all around have affected most of us in one way or another. In times like this, I find it so important to work extra hard, and to find even just a little spark of joy to brighten your day, or someone else’s. Here are a few simple things I like to do when my spirits are low.
Over the weekend, I decided to head over to LACMA to check out the art scene there. Art has been a huge part of my life from the time that I was very young. Many of my childhood memories include visiting art galleries and museums, and spending hours staring at some of my favorite paintings in absolute awe.
For as long as I can remember, music has been so important to me. Some of my most prominent childhood memories include music, from dancing to Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker every night with my older sister, to relaxing by the fireplace as my dad played some of his favorite Beatles songs on the guitar.
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to visit home for the first time since I left for school. It was really nice to return to a place that felt so familliar to me, and I was beyond happy to see my friends and family. Along with catching up with everyone that I hadn’t seen in so long, I was also able to take a few minutes to myself, and reflect on the past few months that I have been gone.
While college is one of the most fun times in a persons life, it can also be super busy and stressful, and sometimes, all we need is just a few minutes to ourselves. Personally, I love being around all of my friends, but I also need time to myself to unwind, and recharge. Whenever I have a few minutes to myself, here is what I like to do.
For the past few years, I’ve been working towards a healthier, and more well rounded lifestyle. I’m not going to lie, it can be really difficult at times, and it’s easy to lose motivation. Personally, I’ve had my fair share of moments where I felt as if I had fallen off of the tracks, and have felt extremely guilty for skipping a day at the gym, or eating something that I wasn’t supposed to. In these moments, however, it’s so important to remember that is all about making gradual changes, and slowly incorporating healthier habits into your life.
Last weekend, I headed up to San Fransisco for a little getaway. While there, I was able to catch up on sleep, eat great food, and spend time with family. It was the perfect escape, and I returned to school feeling fresh and rejuvenated.
I’ve been thinking and reflecting a lot lately; it’s kind of what I do when I’m experiencing changes in my life. I think about the moments that brought me to where I am, and I think about how I want to continue my life in order to excel the most. With all of this reflecting, I’ve thought of quite a few things that I wished I would have done in the past, and that I will definitely implement into my future. These things are small and simple, yet they have the power to make a huge difference in the long run.
These past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind for me. I’ve met more people than I can even remember, and have worked harder than ever before. While I’ve been extremely busy, I have managed to slip off campus a few times, and explore the surrounding areas.
So here’s the thing: change isn’t easy. It can be scary, stressful, and emotionally draining to pick up, and move your entire life. You are forced to reestablish yourself in a completely new environment, where you know no one, and are unfamiliar with the area surrounding you. While exciting, it’s also so important to remember that those times in which you are feeling sad, overwhelmed, or stressed, are completely normal. So, what can you do when you are feeling this way to better the situation?
Life is filled with all sorts of changes and new experiences. From meeting new people, to traveling to foreign places, we are constantly expanding ourselves as individuals and learning more and more about the world around us. Rarely, however, do we have the opportunity to reflect on the past, and really think about the moments in time that shaped us as people.
